How to Use Synesthesia to Boost Creativity and Learning (BKI 57)

Hi, this is Diana. Bright knowledge instants give you one thing you can do today to move your creativity ahead. Synesthesia, it's hard to say, is the bringing together of senses, the crossing of senses in unusual ways. So, for example, someone may hear a sound and see a color, or someone may look at a number and have a smell. Evoked synesthesia is something that we have as children. Children oftentimes cross senses like this, but it's something we lose over time.

And that's a shame, because it's an incredible way to get more inspiration and also to learn more deeply. When you cross the senses like this, it embeds more deeply in our memory, and we also get a lot more inspirational ideas. So as you're practicing a song, for instance, think about what is the smell that's being evoked for you. This will bring up all kinds of images, which will result in more ideas for how to interpret and arrange the song or even compose it in the first place.

The five senses of touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing can really synergize in such a powerful way that you do indeed learn and create more deeply. Think about it today as you're going about whatever your creative act is, you're writing something. What smells are being evoked for you, you're cooking something, what colors are coming up for you. This may give you ideas about new spices to bring in new ingredients to bring in altogether.

Whatever your art form, you can harness the power of synesthesia and actually reclaim it in your life. So try that today. The five senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing. Bye.
