Can Decluttering really be Fun? (BKI 24)

Let’s start our New Creative Year with a fresh creative space! In the Northern Hemisphere we’re in Harvest season, the perfect time to make space for the creative bounty waiting to pour out of you. In the Southern Hemisphere it’s Spring - think of this as creative spring cleaning time!

While the notion of creativity = messiness is common, de-cluttering actually makes space for your creativity by:

• reducing distractions, so you can focus more

• removing obstacles, so you can progress with ease

• opening your space to new energy flow, new ideas, new inspiration!

• making your space inviting and attractive, meaning you’ll want to be there more often

Decluttering with Joy Tidying up sure doesn’t sound like the most exciting way to spend time. But try this method: I believe you’ll find it a revelation!

(Bonus: it works for your entire house)

Hi, this is Diana Bright Knowledge Instance give you one thing that you can do today to move your creativity ahead. Today I want to talk about decluttering. There's an image that artists need to be completely messy in order to create. However, by decluttering, in fact, you get so many creative benefits. And let me tell you some of them. The first thing is that you reduce distractions in your creativity space.

And we know as creatives that focus is critical in order to actually bring something to fruition. Number two, it removes obstacles that are in your space and obstacles create frustration. They break your flow. They basically make things feel hard rather than easy. And we want to have that ease in our creativity. The third thing is by decluttering, you literally create more space. And that means new things can come in, new ideas, new inspiration, new flow.

Because if your space is already completely occupied, what new things can possibly fit in there? So by decluttering, you open space. And then finally by decluttering, you actually make your space more inviting. You make it more beautiful, which is an energy in itself. And that will encourage you to want to be in your creativity space, to actually be there and start doing your wonderful work. I know that the idea of decluttering is not very exciting, but there's an amazing method out there that will really, really help you.

It's helped me a lot. It's called the Konmari Method and it's created by Marie Kondo, wonderful author of the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. And this book title is no exaggeration. It's very small book, as you can see. A handbook, really. Her method is that you literally touch each of the things in your space and if they spark joy, if they give you a feeling of excitement and happiness, you will keep those things.

For anything that doesn't give you that feeling, you're going to take a hard look at it and see. Maybe I have used this item to the extent that I need to and now I will pass it on to someone else with respect. You basically choose what you're going to keep based on joy, and you let go of things that no longer give you joy. This is a great way to declutter your space in a way that's utterly positive and a way that also gives you great insight into what makes you tick, what is your style in many ways.

So try that today. Try in your creativity space by a quick declutter based on touching each item. Does it give you joy? Keep it. If it doesn't, pass it on. Bye.
