Chimera—a mythical being composed of parts from many different animals, often wildly imaginative or dazzling; also a quartet of composers who blend their voices to create emotional and compelling music drawing from Western Classical, Indian, Balkan, Middle Eastern, Celtic, and more.
Katrina Wreede - viola
Moses Sedler - cello
Diana Rowan - harp
Chimera is a symposium of Bay Area composers who put the joy of ongoing creation at the top of their artistic to-do list. All members have heavy-duty western classical training, which they combine with serious study of other musical genres to create all-original pieces of striking power. Chimera meets regularly, each member submitting compositional sketches that the entire quartet then workshops together. This dynamic process includes a lot of leeway for improvisation, meaning no rehearsal or concert is ever the same, much like every moment of life!
